Smethwick Rangers 0-0 Bilston Town

21/02/2016 – WMRL – Smethwick Rangers 0 Bilston Town 0

Another point, another clean sheet and another had working performance from the Steelmen that restores a little more confidence ahead of a big week, where we entertain both Wolverhampton Casuals on Wednesday, and Black Country Rangers on Saturday.

On a soft, heavy pitch, it was difficult to put too much passing football together but it was important to do the simple things right and to make no mistakes, which we did well.

Piggo brought a great save from their keeper five minutes before the break, his shot on the turn being tipped over at full stretch.

Smethwick are an attack minded mid table side but were nullified by the resolute defending and hard working midfield of Bilston – the only negative being an injury to Alex Haynes, who was taken to hospital after the game for x-rays on his ankle, we hope it’s nothing too serious.

With Tipton, Wellington Amateurs and Bromyard all losing, it has to be viewed as a valuable point gained and, on a difficult surface, credit to all the lads today for a hard working display and a second successive clean sheet.

Onto Wednesday night now and Wolverhampton Casuals, see you there.
